Education at Roundabout


Internships
are available in the following departments:


Artistic/Literary

Artistic responsibilities include assisting with the planning and execution of Opening Nights, orchestrating Tony Voter ticketing, and completing administrative tasks that support the work of the Artistic Director. Literary responsibilities include reading new play submissions and writing coverage, assisting with the preparation and execution of play readings, and drafting literary correspondence. Strong writing and phone skills are imperative.


BUSINESS

Responsibilities include supporting the theatre's business operations by assisting with the processing of income, maintaining expense records, communicating with vendors, and assorted financial projects related to accounts payable/receivable.


DEVELOPMENT

Responsibilities include supporting all areas of Roundabout's fundraising efforts, with special emphasis on individual giving. Intern assists in maintenance of donor database and files, drafting correspondence, creation and tracking of donor correspondence and renewal materials, and the coordination of development events.


EDUCATION

Education internships are available in two areas. A full time year-long internship: Responsibilities may include assisting in the coordination of various education programs including classroom residencies, student matinees, on-site workshops, professional development workshops for teachers and administrators, and the publication of study guides and newsletters. Tasks may include but are not limited to database management, coordination of workshop materials, support for the career development program, and documentation of education programs. Strong organizational skills and an interest in education are imperative. A part time semester-long internship (available in spring and summer): Intern will assist in the coordination of Student Production Workshop, Roundabout’s after school program. Student Production Workshop is a student run theatre company with a students serving as the Artistic, Managing, Production and Technical Directors. Duties may include but are not limited to mentoring students through the production process, arranging snack for students, coordinating materials, helping students write rehearsal reports.



MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities include maintaining artist contracts, drafting correspondence with agents, unions, and other collaborators, answering and redirecting phone calls, maintaining an extensive filing system, special projects such as preparing research for union and individual contract negotiations, and researching legal, real estate, and copyright issues. The general management intern provides support to the Managing Director, General Manager, General Counsel, and various production and facility personnel.


MARKETING

Responsibilities include coordinating special receptions and cast gifts, maintaining press and advertising files, tracking box office information, and contributing to projects related to subscription campaigns, advertising, direct mail, and audience surveys. Interns also take part in advertising and marketing meetings.


SPECIAL EVENTS
Not available during Summer

Responsibilities include assisting with the planning and coordination of all special events, including gala fundraisers, opening night parties, donor dinners, institutional events, and play readings. The ideal candidate for this position will be an outgoing, detail-oriented individual with the ability to multi-task. Strong computer and phone skills are a must. Tasks may include but are not limited to organizing mailings, drafting correspondence, updating records and inventory, and creation of event timelines.


TICKET SERVICES

Responsibilities include assisting with data entry, subscriber records, customer mailings, and general maintenance of approximately forty-thousand annual subscriptions.


Note: Roundabout does not offer internships in acting. Persons interested in assistant director fellowships must apply through the Drama League's directing fellowship program.
