Intimate Circles
Roundabout’s Chairman’s Circle supporters are on the inside track

Have you ever wanted to chat with the director of one of Roundabout’s productions? Or get the chance to ask actors how they prepared for their roles? Last season, nearly 700 members of Roundabout’s Chairman’s Circle got to do just that, and much more. One of the main goals of this special membership group is to bring theatre lovers closer to the action and closer to the artists. To do that, Roundabout hosts a series of intimate events for these patrons–gatherings that are small enough for conversation to flow and connections to be made. In a way, you could think of membership in our Chairman’s Circle as a night out on the town with a creative, flamboyant family of friends and artists.

For Chairman’s Circle supporters, the 2003-2004 season was a very good year. It began last November. The first intimate pre-show dinners were served in the private Nabisco Lounge atop the American Airlines Theatre in conjunction with the season opener, The Caretaker. Before the curtain, director David Jones and actor Kyle McLaughlin stopped by to greet and thank supporters, and to speak about their experiences during the production.

In January and February, other Chairman’s Circle members ate on the stage of the new Laura Pels Theatre after receiving a sneak preview of Roundabout’s newest facility, the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, before it opened to the public. Architects Bob Ascione and Fred Basch were the guests of honor and regaled Roundabout’s supporters with a brief history of the theatre’s real estate adventures and renovations around the city.

In the spring, the dinners returned to the Nabisco Lounge before guests saw Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche in Twentieth Century. Longtime Roundabout favorite, Julie Halston, stopped by to share some behind-the-scenes stories with our guests. For Assassins, Roundabout hosted dinners after the show at a nearby restaurant, offering our patrons and artists an opportunity to engage in lively table discussions about the award-winning musical. Likewise, in July, guests were treated to an opportunity to hear director David Warren at a private pre-theatre dinner before watching his work on Fiction.

Even though these events are quite intimate, there is always room for more at the table! Membership in the Chairman’s Circle begins at $1,750, and includes many more perks like access to house seats and personalized handling of ticket requests and purchases. Chairman’s Circle members agree that it’s a great way to get closer to Roundabout and the artists. "I enjoy going to the smaller dinner parties," says one Chairman’s Circle supporter. "We get to know Todd Haimes and the staff. And it’s nice to associate with other people who are as committed to Roundabout as we are."

If you are interested in helping to support Roundabout’s vital theatrical mission by becoming a member of the Chairman’s Circle, please call our Director of Individual Giving,
Julia Lazarus, at (212) 719-9393.
