Putting Plan Into Action

What do you do to plan for the future when you have three classic theatres in the heart of Broadway? The same thing Roundabout's audience members do–you create a plan that allows today's assets to become tomorrow's safety net.

After nearly four decades of temporary homes, theatre evictions, and extreme financial challenges, Roundabout has enjoyed an incredible period of growth and success thanks to the support of loyal subscribers and interested theatergoers and blockbuster productions like Twelve Angry Men and The Pajama Game. But back in 1983, it wasn't a sure thing that Roundabout would be around to launch a 41st Season. Todd Haimes had just been hired as Managing Director, and within his first two weeks on the job, the Board had voted to close the company after years of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Thanks to the extraordinary management skills of Todd and one Board member in particular, Roundabout was able to keep its doors open and continue productions, raise itself out of bankruptcy, and grow to the producing powerhouse that it is today.

The Board member who played such a key role in helping to save Roundabout was Christian C. Yegen, who continues to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board and great friend to the company today. In addition to providing emergency funds for the theatre to continue, Chris and his family showed an even greater vote of confidence in Todd and in the company: Chris made the very first planned gift to support Roundabout. By including the company in his estate plans, Chris made a major statement about his belief in our work, and his confidence that Roundabout should be around for future generations.

Now, as we enter our fifth decade of producing theatre on and off Broadway, it is clear that Chris Yegen's faith in Todd – as both manager and, for the past 17 years, as artistic director – and the company was well placed. So as we begin another new era, with three permanent theatres and 22 Tony Awards, we are delighted to announce the launch of a new planned giving society, designed specifically to recognize the generous Roundabout family members who choose to include the company in their wills. We are deeply honored to name this planned giving group The Yegen Society in honor of Chris's visionary commitment nearly 25 years ago.

In the intervening years, other close friends have provided for Roundabout in their estate plans. Now we are formalizing a program to recognize those friends who make provisions for us in their estate plans. As founding members of the Yegen Society, supporters will enjoy special benefits and privileges to recognize their incredibly meaningful support. Benefits include: • Recognition on a plaque in the Langworthy Lounge at the American Airlines Theatre; • Invitation to an annual luncheon with Roundabout leadership and artists; • Special listing in Playbill and Roundabout's Annual Report; • Access to our Patron's Lounges; and • Invitations to selected special events for Roundabout supporters

The Yegen Society is one of the newest –and the easiest– ways to show your commitment to Roundabout and its future. There are also many tax advantages to making a planned gift now that will provide critical support for our future. Including Roundabout in your estate plans is an incredibly easy way to make a meaningful contribution to the theatre's future now.

If you would like information on joining the Yegen Society,
or have already included Roundabout in your will,

please call Jeffory Lawson, Director of Development, at 212.719.9393 or click here, and join this dedicated group of supporters. We look forward to helping this exciting new program grow, and to showing our gratitude to the friends who join us in making the next 40 years possible.
