On April 26, 2004, Roundabout Theatre celebrated the legendary songwriting team of Kander & Ebb at a dazzling benefit at the new Mandarin Oriental, New York. John Kander and Fred Ebb were honored with the prestigious Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre, and guests were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime musical tribute directed by Roundabout's Associate Artistic Director, Scott Ellis.

This spectacular production featured great performances by Kander & Ebb musical alums Joel Grey, Karen Ziemba, Natasha Richardson, John Benjamin Hickey, Chita Rivera, Jason Alexander, Marin Mazzie, Daniel McDonald, Jim Walton, Michelle Pawk, Bebe Neuwirth, Debra Monk, Brenda Pressley, Brent Barrett, and Liza Minnelli. In a dramatic finale, the Broadway Inspirational Voices conducted by the multi-talented Michael McElroy joined Liza onstage to sing Kander & Ebb's beloved anthem "New York, New York".

The 2004 Spring Gala Celebration raised more than $900,000 to benefit Roundabout's Musical Theatre Fund. Thanks to the efforts of Gala Co-Chairs Leslie and Harrison Bains and Karen and Paul Lacouture, the evening was a tremendous success and will help ensure a long future for Roundabout musical workshops, readings and full-scale productions.
